he BetaSpace group has produced an online community for personal and group artistic expression. One of the original aims of the project was to emphasize a more innovative navigational structure and community involvement, with the goal of creating a distinct, open environment for free artistic expression. In addition to featured and semiannual exhibits, the online space expands along with its audience base, with viewers having the ability to contribute to the size and scope of the online community.

Primary Objectives:

• Incorporate as many forms of new media art as possible
• Foster effective artistic collaboration among local, national, and (potentially) international new media artists
• Develop innovative, experimental content, structure, and design

The Project consists of a number of different online ‘galleries’ and community spaces:

1. Beta Genome– A chance to look into the minds of BetaSpace's creators. Beta Genome features individual installations from the four creators of BetaSpace.org. Topics range from interactive experiments, to Japanese culture, to dynamic artistic creation.

2. Progressions - The Progressions Gallery provides a transient venue for various artists to showcase their work and with the opportunity to gain exposure among the community of artists at BetaSpace. Selections of artists are rotated on a changing basis.

4. Functions – The Functions Gallery focuses on works that share a theme or common thread. Possible topics for this gallery are open-ended, and we welcome submissions to be nominated for showcase in this gallery.

5. Underscored – Individual artists displaying work of great importance to the Web community are featured on a rotating basis in the Underscored Gallery. Nominations are always welcome.

6. Collaborative Studio – Collaborative Studio focuses on building New Media artwork through the collective contributions of online members. Categories currently being offered include 'Collaborative Artwork Creation', 'Collaborative Storytelling', 'Collaborative Audio', and 'Design Challenge'.

7. Community Access – Community Access provides BetaSpace participants with an open forum for idea and information exchange on a wide variety of topics, including community-related, creative, or technical issues for all to view and participate in.
