Collaborative
Studio provides
a space that allows people to work creatively with one
another online. To participate in these groups
or view their content, people are required to register
and become members. Once registered, members can start
viewing what other members have been creating collaboratively,
or even join a group.
Not only do members get a chance to join a group, they
could also start their own (public or private) group at
BetaSpace.org.
The Collaborative Artwork Creation provides virtual studio
space for members to collaboratively create new media artwork.
Currently, select groups have been created and are categorized
by medium or subject interest. Group members are given
the opportunity to participate in the evolution of a collective
new media art project by sharing common source files and
through online idea exchanges. The progression of the project
is tracked through the structure of the Collaborative Studio
environment, and all group artwork is eligible for exhibition
in one of the main BetaSpace galleries.
Another category, Collaborative
Storytelling, simulates the idea of telling folklores.
Members tell a story and
let others continue the story. Different experiences are
weaved together and are told in different media other than
just writing. A member can start telling a story in any
format s/he sees fit – animation, still images, audio,
text etc. For instance, if a member starts with an illustration,
another member might give his/her own personal interpretation
of the image and continue the story in writing. The next
member who comes along might want to further advance the
plot by posting a related animation.
Collaborative Audio carries on the same idea as Collaborative
Artwork Creation does, in that people are given a common
set of media (audio clips) to work with, with the goal
of individually transforming the work and reposting the
result back to the community for feedback and further evolution.
At Design Challenge, members
get the chance to show off their skills. In the ‘Pixel Art Challenge’ section,
members can submit manipulated photos themed around “Road
Tripping” using digital imaging programs such as
Photoshop. Our intention is to help designers not only
share their works but also display what can be done creatively
and collectively online. Another posted challenge in the
category is to create a flash movie with a final file size
of under 45k. Members can cast a vote on their favorite
piece of work done by other members, and once again, all
generated work is eligible for display in one of the main
BetaSpace galleries.
Collaborative
Studio ultimately shows the vast creative
potential of collaborative art making and community feedback,
which can benefit the art community by helping to form
more of a sense of collective self-expression and community,
as opposed to a more individualized, limited view of the
world.
